William + Kayla
Kent Ohio Engagement Session
William and Kayla’s Kent Ohio engagement session on the last day in November was a blustery, chilly day (but that works out right? Gotta keep each other warm and be #cute during engagement pics). Full of tofurkey and the like from Thanksgiving, we pre-gamed with some warm drinks from Tree City Coffee, and made our way out into the cold streets surrounding William and Kayla’s alma mater.
Kayla and William met where William worked while they were both in the Kent Ohio area (a hair salon! It was shear fate. Get it? Get it??? She was blown away. Okay, okay, we’ll stop. Love was in the hair. Just teasing. Last one, promise). Kayla is an actress in NYC and William is an engineer. They’ll both be living in the Big Apple after they tie the knot! They’ve described themselves as the Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope of NYC. We agree.
We started out in a small, cozy brick alleyway between shops that had a very Diagon Alley feel (very essential vibes for Harry Potter loving lovers). William and Kayla danced and huddle together to keep warm (looking adorbs while doing so, obviously), and we did the photography thing. We contemplated posing next to the larger than life sized squirrel (Kent Ohio has this mascot thing with squirrels, there’s a lot of them around campus. Like, a lot a lot), but decided that was too nutty and continued on our way.
Next, we headed to the parking garage (mostly for warmth but also to make art). Those image are some of our favorite from their session. The creepy, clanky elevator gave us some amazing, moody and dynamic lighting. Even with the most unappealing circumstances and surroundings, beautiful images can be made if light is used right (and obviously if you and your favorite person are snuggled up together). We braved the cold on the top level of the garage for a few hipster musical duo style photos (She&Him, anyone?), then cozied up and made magic with some rad movement gifs. Who doesn’t wanna cuddle up in between concrete pillars, hmmm?
William and Kayla cuddled tightly in a creepy alley with beautiful light, and the ladies convinced the dudes that breaking and entering into abandoned buildings was not the solution, even if it meant sacrificing cool photos (always avoid getting arrested for trespassing on photoshoots).
We made our way down to the cobbled brick roads near the river and railroad tracks where William and Kayla cuddled some more (you really have to like each other when you take photos with us or you’re going to get reallllly sick of being so close to your boo 😉 ), frolicked in the streets, and we all dreamed of chowing down on some delicious tacos from Tanto’s at 10:30 in the morning (having your photo taken really makes ya hungry).
William and Kayla, you guys are da bomb dot com, and we are SO beyond stoked for your guys’ big day this August. Looking forward to dancin’, celebratin’, and eatin’ some delicious vegetarian cuisine with you (oh, and making art). Thank you for trusting in us to capture your love and choosing us to annoy you to death for the entirety of your wedding day (we’ll try to stay out of your hair). We’ll cut it out now.
Catch you on the flippity flip!
