Handcrafted Jewelry Photography
Silvatica Designs
Today we’re sharing some amazing handcrafted Jewelry photography that we had the privilege of shooting with our friends and fellow crazy cat lovers, Jamie and Adam of Silvatica Designs. Jamie and Adam are foresters by trade, but they also own a Silvatica Designs, a small business focused on creating stunning pieces of handmade, sustainable jewelry made from wood (AND its all local).
Jamie and Adam’s knowledge of the forest and the environment in general is freaking awesome. Over the past year or so, we’ve had the pleasure of working with them and getting to know more and more about their profession and all the fun (and not so fun) stuff involved in forestry.
We asked them to be guest writers on this post, and are so stoked that they said yes. Their insight into their field and their perspective on our work (which, sheesh, way to almost make us cry guys, so thoughtful (we love you)) is a great read.
When preparing and planning for this jewelry photography shoot with Jamie and Adam, we were really focused on the quality of light portrayed in their work, and how it would interact with their pieces *literally* in their element—the forest. Overall, this shoot was SO fun and creatively challenging, and we are so thankful for the opportunity.
Without further ado, we introduce our friends, Jamie and Adam!
What image comes to mind when someone mentions forester? Probably nothing, or at best Paul Bunyan and an ox. The field of forestry has struggled to communicate who we are and what we do for decades, and as a result, there are many negative associations and misconceptions of the profession.
As foresters and owners of a budding business that relies on sustainably harvested wood, we have a vested interest in people understanding what forestry is and why healthy, productive forests are important. In order to fully tell our story and shine light on the work we do, we needed compelling and artistic imagery—this is why we reached out to Mikayla and Luke.
We previously worked with this dynamic duo back in April on a product photoshoot in our wood shop. Knowing they were always down for an adventure, it seemed like a good time to take a trip into the woods. Mikayla and Luke captured amazing images of our jewelry in its “natural” environment.
Almost certainly more challenging, they were incredibly patient and creative in capturing us performing some ‘day to day’ forestry tasks. Most importantly, many laughs were had over finding the perfect fern and making sure no one accidentally touched poison ivy.
The resulting photos from that day by far exceeded our expectations. Not only did they make two socially awkward foresters look cool (we look cool, right guys?) and our jewelry look stunning, but they also somehow captured our favorite photo ever taken of the two of us.
Many of these images shared on our website and social media platforms have gained significant attention, allowing us to start conversations about sustainable forest management and what it means to be a forester. Mikayla and Luke were able to turn our vision into a reality and we are grateful that these two adventurous souls were willing to cruise around in the forest with us.
A special thanks to our friend Nicole Loyd of for being our stunning model, flower handler, and overall boss along with us during the jewelry photography shoot!
